To access the Isle of Arran, you need to take the ferry from Ardrossan on the Mainland to Brodick on Arran. The crossing generally takes a little over an hour, including embarking and disembarking. You need to book ferry tickets ahead if you plan to take a car, otherwise foot passengers can buy a ticket in the terminal itself.
While there is lots of lovely walking to be had, it is highly recommended to have a car (or bikes and lots of stamina) to enjoy Arran to the full.
The nearest airport is Glasgow Prestwick Airport, from where Ardrossan ferry port is about half an hour by road.
Ardrossan ferry port is about 25 miles southwest of Glasgow, on the A738 off the A78.
There is a rail station at Ardrossan ferry port, for which can catch the boat train from Glasgow Central station.
